# Boat exploration compass

The circular map is north-up. The lime arrow shows the driven boat's location and bow heading; orbiting the camera does not turn the map. Gold marks the selected destination and its direct bearing. Distances are metres nearby and nautical miles offshore. The dashed bearing is an orientation aid, not a water route or a navigation chart.

Destinations share the reconstruction's existing geographic references: Horn Island's west beach, 14209 El Camino Real Road dock, Pershing harbor dock, Fort Bayou Boat Launch, Biloxi Bay Bridge and Saint Martin Bayou. Dock positions retain the estimates described in the mainland and movement source notes.

All places fits those destinations and the driven boat. Nearby follows the boat at a 500 m radius; plus/minus adjust the radius from 60 m to 40 km. Distant destinations remain indicated at the compass rim. Pale dots in nearby view are other boats present in the frozen exploration scene. Choosing a destination or changing map scale does not relocate a boat or alter timeline evidence.

The mainland outline uses the same local GeoJSON and refined El Camino banks as the 3D scene, © [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). Horn Island land comes from the existing 2021 USACE topobathymetry grids, using the reconstruction's 0.254 m reference waterline. These are approximate geographic context, not a July 4 shoreline survey. The map uses local project assets and makes no map-tile requests.
